Who can participate in the Welcome Home Project?
Individuals, Social Clubs, Sororities/Fraternities, Faith-Based Groups, City Departments, Civic Organizations (i.e. Neighborhood Councils, Rotary Clubs), Trade Organizations and Unions and more are invited to participate.
How do I register to host a gathering?
Go to lamayor.org/WHP for information about how to register and to receive helpful tips for your gathering.
What should I do at my gathering?
Invite friends and neighbors to your home or business or civic organization to talk about homelessness within your community. The Host Handbook will include conversation starters, fact sheets, and talking point on solutions proposed by Mayor Eric Garcetti and City Council as part of the Comprehensive Homelessness Strategy. Through learning the facts, Host may then encourage guests to get involved in a number of initiatives including hosting additional gatherings, recruiting local landlords, assist in securing voluntary storage sites so homeless residents may store their non-essential belongings, vote to secure permanent funding streams for housing, and more.
How do I create a Welcome Home Basket?
When you invite your guests to your gathering, ask them to bring a new item from the Welcome Home Basket Checklist. You can find the checklist, tips on creating a registry, as well as a sample invitation to guests at lamayor.org/WHP.
Can I make more than one Basket?
Absolutely! There are many Angelenos who are moving into housing every day that could use a basket of these essential items to help them get settled.
Who will receive our Welcome Home Basket?
Recently housed individuals and families will receive the Welcome Home Baskets. Eligible households will be identified through the local Coordinated Entry System lead organizations.
How will households receive the Welcome Home Basket?
We are asking each Host to deliver their assembled Welcome Home Basket to a participating drop-off location in their area.
Who can I contact if I have more questions?
Email email@example.com for more information. The Mayor’s team will also call or email after you register to make sure you have everything you need to host your gathering.
